Tall buildings The wind whistles through, all the cracks and the tubes And the phone lines and cubes and the structures I noticed you, through the crowds and the timetables, Turnstiles and queues and the meetings All here, only for the moment, All here only for the instant And the rise and the fall, the footsteps down the hall And the wires in the walls Tall Buildings And the beating and the whining, and the cogs forever grinding The signs of the blinding Tall Buildings Tall Buildings On a wing and a prayer, and a godspeed you there And the tip and the flames and the flashin’ I know this is cruel but it’s not worse than the usual It’s not worse than the typical All here, only for the moment, All here only for an instant All alone in thin air, sheer belief holds you there Far beyond hope and care, Tall Buildings In the freeze of the frame, where a voice speaks your name Oh the noise in your veins! Tall Buildings Tall Buildings Are you there? Are you anywhere?

Quicksand 05:17
Quicksand The more you fight, the more it pulls you down, The more you struggle and you strain The more I know, the more confused I am It’s all just phantoms in this dream But I had no better place to go, between light and the promise of a home And I was caught up in a world of quicksand Caught up in a world of quicksand Forget your past, it need not bind you It’s only shadows in your mind Forget your eyes, they need not blind you They show you only colours bright So high the seas outside tonight It’s a brave soul who steps into the light And I was caught up in a world of quicksand Caught up in a world of quicksand Forget your dreams, they’re far behind you, they’re dead inside you They lie beside you And all your schemes, they’re really shattered; they really mattered But now they’re tatters Those clutching hands, don’t tug your sleeve now They never really held you right You understand what’s driving me now And so the picture’s almost bright

Secrets of the wind There was a time, I’d stand astride the hills and dream of perfect crimes With all the stars a’shine Better days, when all the world was brave and all the winds were waves And all the suns ablaze But now I see the falling of the leaves, And now I hear the wailing and the whining of the trees Cos I used to know, I used to go within, I used to know the secrets of the wind A tiny call, a voice as soft as rain, that only came at dawn, and tied my hair at night Once ignored, once ignored twice gone, now an empty chord A friend once known no more Now I hear the whispering of the rain, And now I see the falling, and the warning signs again Cos I used to know, I used to go within, I used to know the secrets of the wind Now I see the warning signs and I hear the voice no more And I feel the urgency of all the strings and all that I adore There was a time, I’d stand astride the hills and dream of perfect crimes With all the stars a’shine But now I see the twisting of the waves, And now I hear the wailing and the whining of the trees Cos I used to know, I used to go within, I used to know the secrets of the wind

Man 04:14
Man man you're so inscrutable, but I can understand and indisputable but I am in your land and it's not true to pull the blinds without your hands and in the mutable you stand all the leaves on the trees tell of your mysteries man you sure look beautiful in this uncharted land it seems so suitable on these unmeasured sands and love is plentiful wherever lives do span you've got a pocketful of stars inside your hands all the leaves on the trees tell of your mysteries don't wake me now don't let the crimson fire go out come drink with me i want you to see what we can make up now i don't want to wake up now man you're so inscrutable, but I can understand and indisputable but I am in your land and love is plentiful wherever lives do span you've got a pocketful of stars inside your hands and in the mutable, you stand so indisputable, but I am in your land and in the crucible the stars are in your hands oh man! oh man! oh man!

Precious cargo Precious cargo, I was given, treasures and the hands to keep them Precious cargo, off to see the world and all its wonders given Walking into darkened corners, how was I to get your notice? Precious cargo, time’s a wasting, as the days go by I’m counting What was once a flood, is now a trickle What I have to show you, is precious little I don’t want to leave this vale of tears without a ripple As the river bears its load along, all the streets and streams and channels long Walking in the night don’t matter, just as long as I deliver Precious cargo, I was laden, with a payload and a lantern Precious cargo, I was given, treasures and the hands to keep them What was once before, is now beyond What I have to show you, is in my hand I don’t want to leave this vale of tears without a ripple

Happy Embers 03:47
Happy embers Out of the cold, comes the rain, out of the blue, it comes again How long, how far, is the line between us? Out of the blue, half a chance, out of the sky, she came to dance Hey hey, why why, is this question even… Happy embers, it’s the way, you want to be remembered Alley ooh, it’s over you, it’s just what you need to end it Out of my head, on the wire, out of the flames into the fire Hey hey, why why, is it all behind your eyes? Out of the fire into the ground, out of my head, coming round How long, how far, is the space, between us? Half remembered, even tempered, they’re all the things you wanted Happy embers, sweet surrender, you’re going to last forever And I know it’s easy (to laugh), with the sun in your eyes And I know this feeling well, don’t know how, don’t know why But it looks so clear, in the atmosphere

Held up to the light For those who live in cloisters and those who wear the mantles, And give up to the altars, and burn things in my street They give me packaged answers and pay the temple dancers And warn against the temptress and try to make believe I held up to the light, the book of all fears And found it empty, yet full of your tears Full of your tears For those who live in dungeons and fear the strikes of truncheons, And sudden stings of serpents, you have my warm regards I know you love this drama, you pay dear for this piper, With all your worldly paper, and all your playing cards I held up to the light, the book of all dreams And found it empty, yet full of your screams I held up to the light, the book of all fears And found it empty, yet full of your tears Full of your tears

All The Way Down I asked my friend, why do you want to hurt so much? It is so complicated, and I long for his touch... I asked my friend, how far down will you go with him? It's hard to explain but I have to go down this way All the way All the way down, all the way down I want to go all the way down There is a part of me that longs for higher things And some days I could swear, I long to join the living I wish I could lose this thing that has grown in me And learn how to choose some way not to lose All the way All the way down, all the way down, I want to go down, all the way down All the way down, all the way down, I want to go all the way down Now surely a little walk through the shade, it can't leave such a mark We all want to feel the edge of the blade, cos it seems such a lark, It leaves such a mark I asked my friend, why do you want to hurt so much? It is so complicated, and I long for his touch... I asked my friend, how far down will you go with him? It's hard to explain but I have to go down this way All the way down, all the way down I want to go down, all the way down All the way down, all the way down I want to take you all the way All the way, all the way down

Hidebound 03:25
Hidebound They say what starts in anger ends in lust and life gets bust They say what starts in playing ends in tears and life runs out of trust The tail might drag the dog around the hill and blood will spill The shooting stars might burn but you and I will never learn We’re hidebound, hidebound They say the best attack is self defence and all good art is self destructive They say that all will wait for those who come but I won’t wait for anyone The tail might drag the dog around the hill and blood will spill The shooting stars might burn but you and I will never learn We’re hidebound You earn your crust you burn your hell you wear you stupid face so well We’re only out for what can get, and what won’t wipe away the sweat I always knew you’d be the never ceasing itch in my craw daddy I always knew you’d be the greatest hell-hound bitch to use my door daddy The tail might drag the dog around the hill and blood will spill The shooting stars might burn but you and I will never learn We’re hidebound

Tread Carefully Step lightly my friend I ask, mistakes are of interest You wounded the one you love, time and again Beware all these false omens, you tend to love tokens It’s easy to laugh knowing, time goes by I was making forms in my head I was making storms I admit Tread carefully there. Tread carefully. You picked on my sore point, and twisted the blade inside, Hurting the one you love, time and again I held white flags overhead, until the whites of your eyes Shone blue tears of welcoming, time and again I was miles away, out to sea I was hunting for greater prey Tread carefully there. Tread carefully. Find it, hold it, keep it, ever in your arms If you notice, I’m just haunted, haunted by your alarms In the cold night air, oh yeah, we are there all the time Find it, hold it, keep it safe in your arms I was miles away We’ve had some heavy weather, heavy weather now

Made to Last 02:41
Made to last A song to remember so, out in the midnight glow Hands receive the folds, everything gets so old
You spread out your wings at last, beat like a heart of glass Inside the raging furnace, everything's made to last
You hold those reins and pain is your brother
Cast those chains and rain is your mother You know the ways you shouldn't go, You turn the tide and the lights down low
It's all a way to go slow, you turn new leaves and I am starting to know Songs to regale the king, inside the halls ring, Out in the mist they sing, everything you can bring
You spread out your wings at last, beat like a heart of glass Inside the raging furnace, everything's made to last You hold those reins and pain is your brother, Cast those chains and rain is your mother She's your mother

Misrule 03:27
Misrule Your life is nothing, your cheeks are rare The treasures lie strewn across your lair The ghost is waiting for you to fall Against your will, against your wall Your life is mayhem, the fingers curl The evergreen, the long-lost girl The hordes are waiting for you to rise The fingers close, the genie's eyes Your life is mad, your skin it houses The drunken peaches, the falling statues The unseen hand, the precious fool Belong to we who worship misrule Misrule, Misrule Velasquez beauty, the shimmer dance Your wild-wind ways and their consequence You've sung too often the dark replies Your fingers crossing the genie's eyes The sky is heavy, the coast it clears While we break, with unspent tears And in the moonlight the rivers shine Against your cheeks, against mine Your life is mad, your skin it houses The drunken peaches, the falling statues The unseen hand, the precious fool Belong to we who worship misrule Misrule, Misrule

about

Making Storms follows on the heels of El Duende's debut album “Overcome”, released in 2005, "Fleeting Glimpses" 2009 and “Day to Day Dream” 2013. The song writing continues to be very strong, and the arrangements have developed in both conception and instrumentation.

Daniel Morphett’s songs have been covered by Mick Harvey (Bad Seeds) and (the sadly now late) James Cruickshank (Cruel Sea), and he was the main songwriter for his previous bands Craven Fops, The Godbotherers and Smitten. Time has not eroded his talents, as this set of songs are as powerful, tender and inspiring as any he has delivered in the past. They are highly crafted pieces of work, and should take over your life for a while, as do any great set of songs.

"Making Storms" is a treasure chest containing many gems. The songs are in the vein of The National, Echo and the Bunnymen, with a hint of The Saints. Passionate and inventive, with lush arrangements and fine performances, it is designed to give you the goosebumps.
